Tackling Chronic Illnesses: Addressing Diabetes, Cancer, and AIDS at Holy Family Hospital, Berekum.
Holy Family Hospital in Berekum, Ghana, faces a major challenge with the growing number of cases of diabetes, cancer and AIDS affecting all ages: children, adults and the elderly. These chronic diseases not only impact physical health, but also the social and economic wellbeing of families, generating a great burden on the health system and etc.
This project aims to identify care and treatment needs, and propose viable solutions to improve the quality of life of patients and their families







Diabetes
(Diabetes, the chronic disease that affects the body's ability to regulate blood sugar, at Holy Family Hospital cases have increased, mainly due to changes in diet and sedentary lifestyles. Children, adults, and the elderly alike suffer from complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, and vision problems.
Cancer
Cancer occurs in various forms in people of all ages, with greater prevalence in adults and the elderly. In children, the most common types are leukemia and brain tumors. Late diagnosis, coupled with a lack of resources, complicates treatment.
AIDS
Acquired Immune deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the HIV virus, which weakens the immune system, it has mainly affected adults, although more and more cases are reported in children, due to perinatal transmission. Complications include recurrent infections and progressive deterioration of health.
